Collingwood, ON – Thanks to a $6,000 grant from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF) a new native pollinator garden and Monarch Waystation will be built at the entrance of the Collingwood Common Roof and Rotary Hub (CCRRH). The garden project, called A Home for Our Hardworking Pollinators, will add planters with native plant species that support pollinators, like native sweat bees and hummingbirds.
“We’re thrilled to expand the Home for Our Hardworking Pollinators project to our Collingwood location,” says James Thomson, President and CEO of The Common Roof.
“This initiative provides a meaningful opportunity to bring our community together while creating a vibrant, supportive ecosystem for pollinators at our community hub. We are grateful for TD FEF for their generous support, which helps us strengthen both our community and local biodiversity here in Collingwood.”
A Home for Our Hardworking Pollinators, is a collaboration between The Common Roof and Pollinate Collingwood, a local group dedicated to promoting native pollinators such as bees, butterflies and wasps. The group is providing expertise on native plant choices and placement for this garden project and supporting future educational workshops at the CCRRH location.
“Pollinate Collingwood is thrilled to collaborate with the Common Roof. This initiative will help provide essential floral resources for Ontario’s native pollinators, while bringing people together to learn and appreciate the impact of pollinators in our communities,” says Carolyn Thicket, Director, Program Development & Habitat Stewardship of Pollinate Collingwood. “The Town of Collingwood has committed to supporting pollinators in our Pollinator Protection Plan adopted in early 2024, and we are excited for the support of TD FEF in making this project a reality.”
